About SheEngineer 30% Club - Kennedy Osagie
To build a voluntary network of professional engineering institutions, engineering businesses and organizations in the aviation, automotive and energy sectors committed to achieving a 30% minimum gender balance within their workforce by 2030 using a 30 by 30 strategy (a commitment to allocate 30% positions to women in engineering in these organizations yearly). Improve diversity and inclusion in these organizations and drive profitability, productivity, creativity and reduce skill shortage by encouraging more girls to take up engineering courses and careers. Strengthen the internal capacity of APWEN to tackle gender inequality in the engineering sector, build up an engineering talent pipeline with the necessary skills to respond to local challenges as well as expand and give more visibility and awareness on the phase 3 project; SheEngineer; Invent It, Build It. Influence employers to retain, promote and support talented women and also create positive workplaces through training in equality and diversity issues and support the development and implementation of gender inclusion policies.
Project Outcomes
1. 100 female engineers to be reached, mentored, and adopted into the club
2. 300 participants for various capacity building programmes hosted by the club
3. Enlist and certify organizations in the aforementioned sectors as SheEngineer 30% Club Certified
4. Partner with employers, policy makers and educators to create an inclusive learning environment. Get engineering companies to develop a Diversity & Inclusion policy.
5. Launch the SheEngineer30 Club to get companies to commitment to have at least 30% positions allocated to females in their organizations.
6. One Week Work Shadowing in Aerospace/Aviation/Energy industries for students in secondary school. Take 10 girls and place them in different engineering departments to ignite their passion and get them set for a possible career in engineering. Allow them experience different sectors taking cognizance of health and safety issues
7. Career Clinics: Develop capacity of practicing female engineers, women engineers returning back to work through training on Leadership, personal branding, developing job strategy and building skill for effective communication/management.
Project Impact
1. Open up more job opportunities and roles for women in the engineering sector
2. Act as a pipeline to supply more women into the industry.
3. Develop a holistic programme that will focus on advocacy and social visibility for female engineers
4. Encouraging engineering exchange and excellence through a model of partnership with various non-governmental organizations, multinational corporations, and engineering educational m institutions to encourage investment in applied research and training which will prove useful in inspiring young girls to take up sciences at the secondary level of their education and subsequently engineering in the university.
5. Work to increase organizations and businesses understanding of the role of women in engineering,
6. Set-up a support and reward system for aspiring and practicing women in engineering.
7. Stimulate socio-change in the direction of diversity in engineering and the role of women in building big businesses.
