APWEN Commences Activities for SheEngineer 30% Club - Kennedy Osagie

The project activities for the SheEngineer 30% Club, an APWEN initiative funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering UK began on Saturday 29th October, 2022 with a Project Initiation Meeting held at the Conference Room of the Nigerian Airspace
Management Agency (NAMA).

SheEngineer 30% Club was conceived to improve diversity and inclusion in STEM-based organizations and reduce skill shortage by encouraging more girls to take up STEM-based careers. The project will be implemented across the aviation, automotive and energy sectors where there is a noticeable shortage of females. It would harp on the need for employers to retain, promote and support talented women and also create positive workplaces through training in equality and diversity issues and support the development and implementation of gender inclusion policies. SheEngineer 30% Club will deploy her strategies in four distinct phases:

Reach Out- To attract more women
Welcome In - To remove bias in recruitment
Pull through - To pull women through the promotional pipeline
Hold On - To retain talented women

The project would address the following challenges:

Women underrepresentation in the engineering sector and engineering education
Skill shortage exacerbated by underrepresentation
Gender inequalities in engineering education and practice in Nigeria.
Challenges of discrimination, harassments, and victimization of professional female engineers
Gender barriers in accessing engineering as a career for women
